Membership Requirements

Prospective members must be at least 18 years of age and meet the requirements of the department to be voted on. It is the decision of the department's Officers to bring an applicant into the department on a Conditional membership. Whether or not the applicant was brought in under conditional membership, each applicant will be voted on for Probationary membership at the next appropriate monthly Business Meeting.

Once voted into the department, firefighters are required to obtain 48 hours of training per year. Forty hours of the training have to be departmental training. Scheduled training is on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. and the third Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. Each firefighter must also attend at least six monthly Business Meetings per year. These are scheduled the first Monday evening of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Station One.

If a prospective member does not live in the KVFD response area, the person is still eligible for membership if he/she agrees to "man a station" at least twelve hours per month.

Explorer Requirements

Explorers must meet the criteria set forth by the Boy Scouts of America and those of KVFD. The applicant must be between the ages of 14 and 21. An Explorer Advisor will contact the applicant and give more details.
